Block printed pencil cases

Posted in blog

This holiday season I found myself looking for new gift giving ideas, and thought I’d try hand printing some fabric with my smaller linocuts and sewing them into pencil cases (I’m only calling them pencil cases because I don’t wear makeup, but they could be makeup bags too). Took a bit of trial and error since I wasn’t working from an existing pattern, but I’m over the moon with the results. I’m going to print some more fabric tonight, it takes a day or two to be dry enough to work with, then sew some more over the next couple days.

When I first went to the fabric store to buy zippers and plain broadcloth, a staff member at the store wanted me to buy a membership, but I said ‘I’m not even sure right now if I like sewing’. When I’d used up my last zipper of the first batch and went back for more, it was obvious then that I *do* like sewing, and bought the membership. Hello new hobby!
