I was asked to paint a mural on a food truck. I jumped at the opportunity to spend a weekend with my dog in the incredibly beautiful Sayward, painting.
The trailer was painted with a coat of red oil based stain, so I designed it to be a simple, graphic, design that I could block in with pencil then garner the help of my mom for painting in. We were painting with an oil paint that got really thick in the heat. It was not unlike painting with tar… but we made it work. There was originally a white layer to add, but everyone loved it so much with just black that we cancelled the addition of white for now. Could always add it in later.
The food truck is a project of my Step-Dad, and is nearly complete. The trim is cut and waiting to be applied (had to happen after the mural), and the kitchen countertops for the interior are ready to go. He thinks the food cart will make it’s appearance this coming weekend at the Sayward Farmer’s Market, then throughout the summer at various locations; fishing wharf, campground, and market.
Sayward’s a small community (only 341 people!), I can’t wait to hear about how the locals react. So far feedback has been great among immediate family.
