A lovely visit to Quadra Island with my sister last Autumn landed us in the tasting room of South End Farm and Vineyard. Their wines are heartfelt, handcrafted and rich with story. Even though I wasn’t there on business, I was carrying a few of my small portfolio booklets to share. They were familiar and big fans of my previous work with Driftwood Brewery and Rocky Creek Winery. We talked briefly in between tastings and they asked if I’d do an overhaul on their branding. Their existing logo had a rooster on a weathervane. They wanted to keep the concept, but the execution needed refining. On the farm, they have beloved araucana roosters and wanted to feature the characteristics of the particular bird in their brand image. Finished off with a twiggy grapevine and some clouds, the resulting logo is perfectly representational of all they stand for.
After the logo was finalized, we moved on to labels for three varieties of their wines; 2011 Virga, a white, a red wine vinegar, and Jimmy K, a sparkling white.
These labels are on hold until later this year as the farm is not quite ready, (notice the ‘xx%’) but I couldn’t wait to share! So, here they are!
