Graphic Design: Driftwood Brewery’s Naughty Hildegard, Extra Special Bitter.

Beer! Driftwood began to tell me the story of Hildegard Von Bingen and her role in revolutionizing beer. During the conversation, I started to remember her from my art history and design history courses in University. She was truly visionary and tested the boundaries of all things she did, including the use of hops in beer. It’s this point that Driftwood is honoring; Hildegard as a rule breaking Benedictine nun, cheekily going against the established guides. I’ve illustrated her using her habit as a hop delivery system. We catch her exposing her naughty fishnets and sexy shoes.. which would be otherwise hidden.

Driftwood’s description from the label design: ‘Brewed to honor Hildegard Von Bingen, a 12th century Benedictine nun who allegedly was the first to record the use of hops as an ingredient in beer. While this is open to debate, we like Hildegard’s style and we can’t imagine a beer without hops. This extra special bitter has lots of hops- Hildegard would be proud. We are! Cheers Hildy!’

Enjoy!
