Dab Gallery Silent Art Auction

It’s getting so sunny and warm! More and more difficult to stay inside and work.. I’ve got a big ol’ sketchbook, probably I’ll end up in the park drawing with my dog soon enough. But, for now, I’ve designed a fabulous piece for Dab Gallery’s Silent Auction to raise funds for the Human Rights DocFest 2009. “This event offers a unique opportunity to purchase art by some of Victoria’s finest artists at a price that you choose, while supporting a great cause.”

Mine is a textile piece, using hand felted wool tops, feather, recycled fur, buttons and embroidery thread. Personally I think it looks like a caterpillar with feather tufts, but who knows.

There are process photos, the first six photos are the felt making process. Note, the long dreadlock-type things have been cut into segments and sewn on to make the focal point of the piece. hmmm, I don’t want to get too far into a how-to tutorial for felt. I didn’t really take very easy to understand, consecutive photos. Plus, it’s more of an indescribable process for me. I just kind of know through practice what to do and when it’s done.

It’s bright, colourful, textured, and fun to look at. AWESOME! Bid on it!
