knitted wooly things

Let me introduce my favorite (non computer) creative outlet, wool and fabric! I love to knit, sew and felt. It also happens that almost everyone I know is having babies- I’ve made two identical Baby Yoda sweaters for my sister and my cousin. My sister had a baby boy (just 4 days ago! welcome to the world, Gabriel). At the time I was knitting hers, they didn’t know what they were having. I knit the sweater in a gender-whatever red.

My cousin knows she’s getting a boy (due in May), and she also gets a red sweater. Babies looks so cute in red. I’m glad it’s gender neutral. These baby sweaters were the first patterned garment I’d tried (I just wing socks- they usually turn out good- or somewhat wearable, at least). It was a super simple pattern, but I’m still really grateful they were baby sized. Seemed to take forever. Hopefully both my sister and my cousin will get lots of use out of them. The ties are adjustable (obviously) and so allow for a bit of baby growth. Mostly in the tummy area. Feed those babies well!

The next photo is of my heart felt pin (heart-felt, get it!). It’s needlefelted, then wet-felted to get the compacted look. Super simple to make, and I get SO many compliments. I also make other felted jewelry like rings, bracelets, and earrings. I sell them privately, if you’re interested, drop me a line.

I also am in love with these octopus and squid knitting patterns I bought off etsy. Just about every friend of mine gets one for their birthday or whatever holiday comes around. Seems I’m always working on one. My favorite part about the octopus and squid knitting process is when you get the legs all assembled and it starts to take shape. It looks sort of like that doll-monster from Toy Story. I forget her name, but the misunderstood boy next door frankenstein-ed her together. Anyway, they are so fun to give as gifts, I have to try really hard to keep a pair for myself. These are the two who call my dresser home.

Sorry if I ruined the surprise, friends who get octopi for gifts. Or, sorry If I give you some crappy store-bought gift. I don’t know what got into me. Handmade is the best!

Oh, in the photos of the octopus and the squid, you can see a photo of my sister and her 9 foot boa constrictor. For real! I took those pictures when she was 8 months pregnant. They turned out wonderfully. She loves them, and I love that I was able to do that for her.

I’ve also thrown in two photos of a little scrap fabric toy that I made some evening in front of a movie.. I can name the source of all the bits of fabric.. but that’s in-depth and personal, I suppose.
